Empress asked:

I am interested in obtaining my TESOL certificate online, but need to know if it is a sound investment. Thanks for all your responses!

I think McDonald’s is hiring. Would that certificate inhibit your ability to flip burgers or clean tables and floors? hoodat

I have a cousin who got a TESOL certificate. She is now doing extemely well in Abu Dahbi teaching English to Arabian bred dogs before they are shipped out to Australia.
She has had to go and spent a few weeks in Australia to enable her to get the correct inflexion for some of the more regularly used words applied to dogs when they misbehave. sidsid

i have a TESOL certificate. I have been a very successful casket saleswoman for many years now. The TESOL certificate gives you the ‘in’ in this field, but where can you get the ‘out’? pomlover

Yes it is. It will give you the qualifications to get into an entry level job in many countries. In general this means Asia, South and Central America and Europe (although these are the most popular destinations you can travel and work almost anywhere).

You can then get a couple of years experience and decide what to do next. Many people take this route.

You may love TEFL and decide to move on to higher qualifications (like CELTA) and positions. Or you may decide you like working in a small school in a village somewhere in Asia and stay there.

Or you might move on to a completely different career but you’ll still have the memories of a couple of very different years teaching in a new and exciting country.

It really is up to you, but the TEFL certificate is the start. Joe
