I’m not sure what you mean. Do you mean why they teach it badly or the problem with… Be more specific. From what I remember, I saw and know a lot of English teachers in Iran and I remember going to their classes. The English they teach is British English, but most people who learn English in Iran, want to go to the US or Canada, so it just doesn’t work. tyki_mo

Hi. I’m 25 from Iran and student of English. Since i have spent many years learning and then studing deeply in English, I am familiar with the systematic problems of teaching English in Iran as a foreign language. At first notice that after islamic revolution, the goverment’s policy was to hinder teaching of English widespread. I don’t want to analize the reasons here but they just wanted to use it for some groups. Some special groups. And now after passing about 30 years of revolution u can still see the consequances of those days that I point the most important one here. All the books for guidance and high schools are written or edited by Dr. Parviz Birjandi who is one of the regime’s subject. And it’s interesting to know when universities apply for new professors, they should get interviwed by Dr. Parviz Birjandi. So u see it’s the main problem. The books are dull, spritless and unmoving. And most students don’t like them in compare with the books they study in independant institute outside. And I believe we should let the students take the language courses outside the schools in the language institutions and then after finishing the terms, submit their certifications from instituts to schools for issuing their diploma. So they can learn English with American new books like New Interchanges and Passages etc. and learn English better. U can see the children that learn English outside school are mostly fluent. It’s how I see the problem…
