What is the best way to teach English as a second language to older age groups?
ThatsPopetastic asked:
I teach English in Korea to Koreans around the age of 40-50, and am looking for ideas on how to teach them and make the class interesting. Their English level is relatively intermediate to advanced, and I have about 7-10 students. I have about one hour to teach them(twice a week). I have access to a computer and a projector screen.

Well teaching with pictures and seeing the Korean word alongside the English word and constantly talking in English as well as making them tapes. This might help… repetition and reinforcement. You could easily make powerpoint presentations of common phrases with pics and words used a lot. skittles8553

The key to teaching is Needs Analysis: that is, finding out what your students need to learn and teaching them that. In other words, why are your students in the class: are they there for social English, to take an exam, just for conversation and so on. Find out that and then plan your lessons around teaching them those things. Joe
