Try these.

English as a Second Language Links

This is not meant to be the longest list of links for EFL/ESL teachers and students. We do want it to be one of the best though, so we have chosen just a few links to really great sites for anyone connected with learning or teaching English as a foreign or second language.

There are some excellent ESL websites about and there are some appalling ESL websites about.

Each week reviewers take a look at different sites across the spectrum of ESL and tell you what is worth visiting and what is worth avoiding.

Listening Links

Randall's ESL Cyber Listening Lab - a great resource of listening activities

Real English Online - like Randall's, only with video. It's free, but you'll need to set up a user account

The English Listening Lounge - lots of conversations with activities (requires RealPlayer)

Takako's Great Adventure - a fun story with many episodes (requires Shockwave)

Global Views

Focus on the Family with Dr. James Dobson

Good luck.

Kevin, Liverpool, England. Kevin

In my ads I use a simple, point-form list outlining my qualifications and teaching areas. It looks sort of like this:

~ Bachelor of Arts degree - English
~ Bachelor of Education degree - Language Arts & ESL
~ TESL Certificate
~ More than five thousand hours teaching experience

~ K-12 ESL Tutoring
~ Grammar, Vocabulary, Pronunciation
~ General and Business English
~ Conversation classes available
~ University proofreading and editing services available

Contact Jetgirly at 555-5555 or.

On the bottom I have strips that read "ESL Tutoring / Jetgirly / 555-5555 /". I'm not lazy- I pre-cut the strips to make them easy to tear off, and I also tear off at least one from each poster before I hang it, to make it look like other people are interested in my services.

My posters are extremely simple but visually appealing, with a HUGE "headline" that reads, "ESL TUTORING". I hang them around the local post-secondary schools, and I also contacted my old K-12 schools (where I still have good relationships with the staff) and they put the ad in their newsletters for free. I target my posters to the bulletin boards at the university outside ESL classes or other classes popular with ESL students. I don't need to hang them in the English department, where everyone is white and English-speaking! I find the room numbers by checking the online course timetable. Jetgirly

Having been an English as a Second Language student myself I can tell you that the Hispanic community is still really overprotective of their teens. Private classes at someone's house doesn't sound very appealing to the parents of a teen who is already learning English in school. But if your interest to teach is legitimate try the old trick of bringing your business where your potential students might go. Local grocery stores and ethnic stores usually have poster boards for people to offer their goods or services. Now if you are already getting some people to show at your home, you're already on track. Usually word of mouth will bring you the most people if you, again, are legitimate about your desire to teach. Really your idea of trying to attract teenagers (that are already learning English in school) into your home for whatever reason sounds......strange....creepilyy strange, sorry. guicho79
