ruhappy asked: I want to teach my boyfriend English a little more formally. He speaks Spanish, and understands almost all of what I say in English. He claims, however, not to understand pronunciation and some verb rules (especially past tense). How to you start teaching phonics and where do you go from there?

nani asked: I was wondering how can I teach an adult English when they don’t even know their literacy in their own language.I have been teaching ESL to many adults and I’ve been able to teach them English in less than a year(if they know their grammar). But when I get to students that didn’t have the change to go to school in their native country.I try to teach them the grammar in their own language but it is still very hard for them. Is there a book or anything that would make learning English easier for them.

Inya asked: Starting Tuesday, I am volunteering to teach English to members on the houskeeping staff at my university. I was wondering if anyone has some helpful hints. Also, I’m afraid of teaching them as if they are children because I’ve only ever taught children anything; is there any way out of that?

yeahyeah asked:
is it hard to find f/t hours as a teacher in hs and college?
I believe I saw a post for an overseas position and it said it doesn’t require knowing the student’s language to teach them English. How would you teach them English w/o knowing their language?
Is it usually a big class you have to teach?
