I’m writing a grammar/writing textbook, and would like to include some snippets of stories and articles from other books or magazines. Most textbooks do this, and include a section crediting the photos and text reprinted with permission.

My question: are these reprintings generally paid for? How can I go about seeking permission? I’m self-publishing, and don’t have much money budgeted for buying rights to articles, but I want to put out a very high-quality product. Any insight would be very warmly appreciated.

My mother is currently in Africa teaching english at an orphanage that has no books, materials, electricity etc. Does anyone know any good games she could play with the kids or any activities they could do? (She has a computer that she can print things out on back at her house).

I would like to have some sort of English textbook for kids, cause I can’t just start teaching grammar, i would need something with games and some easy conversations. Is there any chance I might find something to download on the Internet? I have downloaded a few books and worksheets but most of them do not seem quite good for teaching children. I have several friends who want to learn English, but the local ESL class is held while we are at work, so I got “volunteered” but I don’t know where to start.
