Should I become a reading teacher or an ESL teacher?
smiley asked:
I am currently a teacher, with a M.A in Special Education, for a high school and want to an endorsement in a more specific field. I have a B.A in English so I enjoy reading and helping students evaluate a text, but I’d like to travel and enjoying working with diverse populations and cultural groups so I also like the thought of teaching English as a second language

Any thoughts or suggestions on which to pursue?
I think I could just get both, but I’d like some information from those with first hand experience also

As an ESL teacher myself, I would tell you that it is very rewarding and is very enjoyable, but I can also how teaching people in special education could also be very rewarding.
Follow your heart?
Also, I do know that in ESL teaching abroad, there is a very high turn around in teachers that only stay for a year or two before returning to their home country so it is entirely possible that you could do both things you are passionate about. cynicism 101
