Is it required to take an ESL class to become a US citizen?

    No. All you need is a basic understanding of the English language to pass. There are waivers for the English requirement for some older Immigrants. Yak Rider

    It’s not required, but recommended if you have any trouble with the language, spoken or written.

    Funding is available if you need it to pay for ESL classes. tonalc2

    No. My dad didn’t because he lived here for about 15 years when he got his citizenship. But it depends on how good you are in English, as it may be needed if you don’t know kitchen from chicken. Oh no, there goes the chicken humor… Wimpy Kid
