Not much.
Teachers are poorly paid in Brazil and considering you’re not Brazilian it’s hard to get a visa.
Cost of living in Rio is pretty expensive too.
There are some possibilities in the Oil exploring cities, such as Macaé.
Even though the commodity is down, the need for English instructors still continues.
A 14 day job on Oil rigs off the coast pays around R$ 2000. That’s around 750USD.

Most of the English Courses in Rio de Janeiro pay around R$15 to R$20 per hour. Considering that you could have 8 classes a day, you would make around R$160,00 per day. Which would be R$3.200 per month. This is the best scenario ever as an English teacher in Rio. Be aware that it is very difficult to reach that level because the demand for English classes aren’t that high. You could work the idea of making half of it…
There is an English course in Copacabana that might need teachers now: “Wizard” Address: Nossa Senhora de Copacabana Avenue, on the corner of Sá Ferreira Street. Look for Beth…She is the owner.
Accommodations will be on your own, for sure!!

Luiz

Because at the Rio? How Brazilian, I think you can teach in other places. I live in Uberlandia, Minas Gerais and I have great desire to learn English …
I say this because I live here where many people (my friends for example) also has a desire to learn.
As for cost, I can not tell you. But it would be cool if you see other places. Think about it … Excuse my English. (I’m using the google translator)
If you doubt that I am Brazilian, visit my orkut: or my profile in Yahoo!Respostas Brasil
