How much can I earn teaching English in Shanghai and what times do they start hiring?
Daniel M asked:
I want to teach English in Shanghai so badly but I don’t know whether me and my wife should just go to shanghai on a tourist visa and cahnge visa status once I get there and find a job or just apply for a job online and start getting a work visa and start as soon as I get there. I want to go this summer, what times do they hire for summer? How much can I earn in Shanghai teaching English? I want alteast a salary of 8,000 RMB a month plus a furnished apartment. Is there any places like that hiring? Can you give me some hints on where to look. I go to eslcafe.com, eslplaza.com, and craigslist.com all the time but is there any other websites out there. What can one do to start teaching in Shanghai, what is your best advice?

Your salary will be variable, and depend on your experience level, and your degrees and certifications.
If you just have a bachelor’s degree and no teaching experience, you will get a basic entry level salary of 6000-8000 RMB per month, and a single apartment provided by the company.
English First has a very good reputation, and is a reputable company.
If you have a TEFL certification or TESOL Master’s Degree, you will get more than 10,000 RMB per month.
go to tefl.com and search teaching jobs in Shanghai. they are hiring now.

Suzhou is 1.5 hours from Shanghai in most traffic conditions. Never go to China to teach on a tourist visa, you are asking for trouble if you do. The salary you should expect in Shanghai (INCLUDING ROOM AND BOARD) ranges between 6,000 - 10,000 Rmb based on your experience. Alot of schools in Shanghai are no longer including apartment, make sure they do, cause if you have to pay for the apartment with a meager supplement, you are going to lose money.
