How can I get a job teaching ESL/EFL in Texas?
Juan Y asked:
I’d love to teach ESL/EFL either in the school district system, or in higher education. I am currently working in Puerto Rico, but the financial situation here is very difficult. I hold a master degree in English with a concentration in Teaching English as a Second Language. I also have my teaching credentials from Puerto Rico.

Most school districts will allow you to teach with credentials from another area, at least provisionally. Since you have skills at the secondary level, you will have to pass the state mandated test (called the TExES) in either grades 4-8 or high school. You might need to take a few additional classes to fufill requirements set forth by the state. Play around on the state website:. It should provide you with information.

Check out the Chronicle of Higher Education website. You can search by topic you want to teach and by state. The site is very comprehensive and is what most people I know use to find Uni. jobs.
