I have a bachelor of Education (4 year degree) and I have 5 years experience teaching in South Korea. I’m an elementary trained teacher in my home country.

You shouldn’t have any problem with your qualifications. Start by checking job sites. International schools, Jr. high schools and High schools would appreciate your qualifications. Check out the classifieds on and

You may need to learn some Japanese as well.

Don’t be arrogant. You need to learn our language and culture before you “teach” in Japan.

As previousy mentioned, your credentials should be enough to put yourself in line for the opportunity, however I don’t believe it’s necessary to speak fluent Japanese.

I’ve seen articles over the past several years in the paper where your housing is payed for, and less is required to teach English in Japan. it’s a known practice that being immersed in another language entirely helps people to learn that language almost by forcing them, being unable to communicate in their native tongue (which should be especially easy if you’re going to be teaching elementary students).

As long as you have some sort of benchmark learning curriculum to grade the advancement of your students, I wouldn’t think it would be all that hard. Look in the local news papers, at the back of the employment guides & classifieds. That’s where I remember seeing the ads I mentioned before.
