ESL programs are a joke. They do nothing but pamper the student. The best way for them to learn English is total immersion.

you need to talk about how and why immigrants acquire a second language.
for non-native English speakers, immigrants need to be a taught a second-language using their first language as a base. in other words what is the best strategy to teach English to non-English speakers.
there is a political ugly side to this issue, but if you want to look at it from an academic point of view, take the linguistics route.
client no. 9 just proved my point.

you could talk about how teenagers initially educated in another country are often more advanced , educationally speaking, than american students since most other countries (including mexico) have higher standards of educations. The only disadvantage thse kids have is that they dont speak the language….and even though they are smart kids with high standards they still TEST low because they dont know the language so they’re stigmatized with stereotypes and ugly feelings all around…for example, the first person who answered u’re question is what the kids feel every day, when except for the language barrier, they’re doing great!

Well, you can talk about the cost of ESL programs as part of doing business with illegal immigrants and you can also show that the rise and fall of enrollment in ESL programs is directly indicative of the local government’s policies on illegal immigration.
For instance, in Prince William Co. Virginia, laws were recently enacted that allowed local police to hold those who are charged, even with minor crimes, until legal status could be verified. As a result, within a matter of months, ESL enrollment has dropped from by 600 students.
While not ALL ESL students in Prince William Co. are illegal aliens, a significant number are and a significant number of those have fled. At it’s high point, ESL enrollment was 13,400 children. 600 less students in 3 months is significant and saves the county schools a signficant amount of money. At $10,500 per student (the cost to educate an average student…not an ESL student which IS higher), Prince William Co. schools have saved a minimum of $6.3 million dollars by this drop alone.
Think of all the programs that can be saved if this trend continues!
