Can certified EFL/ESL teachers work in any EU countries with just an American passport?
D Low asked:
I am currently teaching abroad but wanted to change to a European country. It seems like only EU passport holders are welcome to apply? Is this true for all of Europe and all types of schools? Is there any way around it?

Contact the European schools, and research your information.

There is no way round it. Under EU law an employer has to advertise the job in all 27 other EU countries before they can hire someone from outside the EU. Most private language school are English run and owned. Language schools in Europe prefer to use UK English as to USA English. So it’s to much hassle for an employer to hire someone from outside the EU. Too much paper work and red tape. The employer has to apply for a permit to hire someone from outside the EU. You could try Turkey wish isn’t in the EU. Most language teachers in the EU are either British or Irish. EU citizen no visa, work pemit needed etc and, no hassle with paper work. That includes state schools also in the EU. You still need a degree to teach in EU as well as a T.E.F.L Cert/Dip.
