I’m starting to think teaching ESL may be something I’m interested in, since I already want to major in linguistics. What’s the process of teaching abroad? What’s the typical job availability/pay? Do I have to be fluent in the language of the country I teach in? What are the most common/best countries to go to? Any advice or experience would be appreciated.

What is the general cost of living for food, both average grocery bill and some asian dishes in a budget restaurant? What are some of the costs I should be aware of before signing up? What is the power/gas/water bills like? Do apartments usually have air-conditioners?

Please only answer if you actually know the answer, even the Louisiana dept of ed doesn’t seem quite sure.

I got my CLAD multiple subject teaching credential in California, and now I am teaching ESL in Louisiana (all subjects). Nobody seems quite sure if my CLAD certification covers the bases so I don’t have to go through ESL certification in Louisiana or not.

Clad stands for Cross-cultural Language And Academic Development.

Obviously I would be pretty happy to find out that it does certify me!
