Spanish Teacher asked:
I have a BA in Spanish and Masters in Education. I am interested in going back to school and obtaining an ESL license. I am working full time as a teacher and won’t have time to do the necessary student teaching practicum in an ESL classroom and am looking alternate routes to be able to teach ESL. I found (at the school Im interested in applying to) a Linguistics minor which does include some ESL classes but looks as though I wouldn’t have to do student teaching with that. Can anyone tell me if I would be able to teach in an ESL classroom with just a linguistics major/minor? Or, do I really need to have the ESL classes and practicum to be hired.

Is there a possibility to rent just a room or are there accommodations for teachers or expats that are reasonably priced. I am going there soon and don’t know if my stipend will cover the high cost of living. I want to be able to take advantage of cultural activities in the city and not be stranded far away to make it more affordable.

I have taken one year of Japanese in community college. I will have my bachelors from UCLA(hopefully, crossing fingers for acceptance) in a little over 2 years. What should I major in? Anything else I should be doing to make myself a more desirable candidate?

I want to make teaching English as a Foreign/Second Language (ESL/EFL) a career so that I can teach overseas (Asia) and make decent money. Which is a better qualification to earn high paying jobs: a Masters in TESOL or becoming a certified teacher in the U.S.? I have a B.A. in Psychology and TESOL certification already.

teflmike asked:
I have just started a 4 week TEFL course in the UK (Trinity CertTESOL) and want to volunteer to teach English on Koh Samui. The problem is that all the volunteer projects I can find on the web (on the island) include a 4 week TEFL course. Of course, I don’t want to do another course as (a) it would be pointless doing it all again, (b) I’d be paying for something pointless, (c) I could be using my time and skill to help the unfortunate kids on the island who can’t afford to go to a school with an English language teacher.
Does anyone know of any different?
